What Pokmon Brilliant Diamond And Shining Pearl Is About
Pokémon Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl will be faithful remakes of the original Generation IV games, and the plot is unlikely to deviate from what came before. A key theme of this remake is nostalgia, and the official website hammers that home. On it, a text blurb notes that “the original story has been faithfully reproduced, and the sense of scale in the originals’ towns and routes has been carefully preserved.” As such, it’s fairly easy to anticipate what players will experience.
The adventure will chronicle the player character’s journey to the top of the gym challenge. In their quest to become the Sinnoh region champion, the player will compete against their rival, as well as Team Galactic. Ever since Generation III, Pokémon‘s narratives have hinged on the evil teams and the marquee box Legendaries Diamond and Pearl are no different. However, what is still unclear is whether or not Platinum‘s narrative additions will be infused into the game.

Pokmon Diamond And Pearl Remake Trailer
Pokémon Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl were first shown off during the February 2021 Pokémon Presents showcase, announced alongside a trailer demonstrating the games art style and gameplay primarily.
The games aesthetic in the overworld very much mimics that of the original Nintendo DS release, with deformed chibi style characters navigating basic 3D environments. Things change in battle, though, as characters take on more realistic proportions alongside the full-sized Pokémon models.
As such, the Pokémon Diamond and Pearl remakes look to be quite faithful to the originals, albeit with a high-definition 3D overhaul to the graphics while throwing in some fairly impressive lighting effects. Some cinematic battle animations were also shown off in the trailer, and look to be at least somewhat of an improvement over Pokémon Sword and Shields efforts, where the animations were criticized for being reused and underwhelming for the first HD mainline Pokémon title.

Pokmon Brilliant Diamond And Shining Pearl Art Style
Pokémon Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl have a cute, chibi art style, which has proved divisive in the Pokémon community.
However, battles and Pokémon sprites have a more traditional 3D style than the characters and overworld. While some may lament the removal of classic 2D sprites from the Diamond and Pearl remakes, Pokémon is bringing the iconic games to a new generation, a new console, and the present day, so it would be remiss not to update the visuals.

Pokmon Brilliant Diamond/shining Pearl Review: Old Faithful
Pokémon Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl play it safe, faithfully remaking two classic DS games — at times to a fault.
- Grand Underground is an improvement
- Strong endgame
- Lacking challenge
- New visuals are too faithful
Pokémon Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl are the exact games fans wanted and they still wont be happy about it. The notoriously hard-to-please fan base spent years begging for a remake of Nintendo DS classics Pokémon Diamond and Pearl, but went into nitpick mode the moment they were actually announced. While the Switch remakes stay true to the originals, internet discourse will no doubt be fused with anger over missing features or cut corners.
The conversation around the game will sound much different if you have kids, though. Budding trainers adventuring into the Sinnoh region for the first time wont know or care if some beloved feature has been tweaked. Theyll be too busy catching an army of monsters and fighting their way to the Elite Four. The magic is still here, so long as you leave decades of baggage at the door.
Nintendo plays it safe with Pokémon Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl, serving up a pair of remakes that are faithful almost to a fault. A straightforward adventure makes them perfect for kids, but older players may find themselves bored by a familiar structure and a lack of challenge. Thankfully, a strong endgame and the smartly redesigned Grand Underground make the return to Sinnoh worthwhile.

It all comes down to a legendary Pokémon. If you want the chance to catch Dialga the Temporal Pokémon then you will want to get the Brilliant Diamond version of the game, while Shining Pearl will give you the opportunity to get your hands on Palkia, the Spatial Pokémon – other than that they’re identical.

Pokemon Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl are 3D remakes of Pokemon’s 2006 Nintendo DS entries, and the games are being developed by ILCA inc instead of Game Freak. ILCA has worked on games like Pokemon Home and was a support studio for Nier Automata and Yakuza 0. The games will be directed by original Diamond and Pearl director Junichi Masuda and ILCA’s Yuichi Ueda.
Pokemon Legends: Arceus is an open-world Pokemon spin-off game set in the feudal past of Diamond and Pearl’s Sinnoh region. Early gameplay showed a world that is reminiscent of The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild, one that is filled with wild Pokemon to catch.
The goal of Pokemon Legends: Arceus is to create Sinnoh’s first Pokedex and aims to “break new ground” for the Pokemon series. Furthermore, it will feature Rowlet, Cyndaquil, and Oshawott as potential partner Pokemon.

Pokmon Diamond And Pearl Remake Gameplay And Setting
If you played the original Pokémon Diamond and Pearl games on Nintendo DS, then you should know what to expect in terms of gameplay. The core Pokémon series gameplay appears to be largely unchanged, maintaining exploration of the overworld, turn-based combat and a focus on catching as many Pokémon as you can to fill out your Pokédex as an extra completionist objective.
Based on recent previews of the game, Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl look like they’re going to be fairly faithful, if slightly safe, remakes that bring forth a lot of nostalgia. The updated art style makes for a cuter, more cosy game but it seems like the core experience will be familiar for those that loved the originals.
It seems the aim of the Pokémon Diamond and Pearl remakes is a fairly faithful recreation but with some much-needed quality of life improvements. Indeed, improvements from newer releases like auto-save, character customization, improvements to HMs and being able to access your Pokémon Box from anywhere have all been noted. More contentiously, EXP Share will also be present in the remakes but it appears players won’t be able to turn it off which isn’t likely to please everyone.
Contests have also been slightly revamped to make them more interesting, with more cutomization and a new rhythm game element.
Connectivity To Other Devices
In addition to compatibility with each other, Diamond and Pearl offer compatibility with the third generation Pokémon games, Pokémon Ruby and Sapphire, Emerald, FireRed and LeafGreen, Pokémon Ranger, and Pokémon Battle Revolution. After earning the National Pokédex in Diamond and Pearl, the player can “Migrate” Pokémon from the Game Boy Advance games to Diamond and Pearl by inserting a Game Boy Advance cartridge into the Game Boy Advance cartridge slot of the Nintendo DS while Diamond or Pearl is in the DS slot. After six Pokémon are uploaded from the cartridge, they are sent to the Pal Park, an area where the player can capture the transferred Pokémon. Pokémon uploads are restricted to six every twenty-four hours per Game Boy Advance cartridge, and the player must capture the uploaded Pokémon before performing another transfer. Pokémon transferred to Diamond and Pearl this way cannot be sent back to a Game Boy Advance cartridge. After completing a special mission in Pokémon Ranger, the player will be able to send a Manaphy egg or Riolu from Ranger to Diamond or Pearl. Finally, players can wirelessly upload Pokémon from Diamond and Pearl to the Wii games Pokémon Battle Revolution and My Pokémon Ranch.

Could Go Either Way
There are some features, mechanics, and characteristics of the series that may be added or updated in the Sinnoh remakes, but it could really go either way. Some of these are also features from Platinum, the sequel to Diamond & Pearl.
> Features From Platinum
While major mechanics and upgrades from Platinum are unlikely to be included in the Diamond & Pearl remakes, there are some things that we might see. As mentioned, the overall pace of the game could be closer to Platinum than its predecessors. However, there are also some other things that we might see included:
- Articuno, Moltres, and Zapdos as roaming Pokemon
- The Battle Frontier
- Gym Leader rematches in the Survival Area
- The Vs. Recorder and added online capabilities
- Terrain and geographical features of some areas that were updated
Additionally, an NPC that does not appear in Diamond & Pearl but does appear in Platinum has been spotted by a keen-eyed fan in the trailer.
This lady gives you a special item if you visit her in Floaroma Town with a Shaymin. She could just be included so you can change your Shaymin’s form, but it’s definitely raising some eyebrows.
